There's more than one way to get those steps in! Our Virgin HealthMiles members wear their GoZones all over the globe and get steps in everywhere they go.
Delia G. starts early in the morning at about 6:30am. "I walked from home to downtown San Antonio, Texas and reached my destination at San Fernando Catheral Church. My pedometer read 27,000 steps when I returned back home. I really enjoy walking first thing in the morning!"
David H. took his son to Buttermilk Falls the highest waterfall in NJ. "I was there once as a child so I wanted him to see it too. Getting there was half the fun since it is in a very remote part of the state. Climbing to the top of the falls was a nice workout and the view is amazing."
Daniel T. and his co-workers step it up on their break. "Each week, a group of us from work walks to the nearest Subway on our lunch period to get some extra steps in. It's not much, but it's extra! We get about 3,500 steps on the walk there and back. Both the 1st shift and 2nd shift walk each week. Our company even pays for the meal once per month, which is awesome! This is not only a great way to get in the extra steps, but also to do a little bonding with our co-workers outside of work. We have great conversation on the way."
Julie R.wore her GoZone while touring Boston. "I tracked about 16,000 steps a day because we walked everywhere! It was good for my daughter, too!"
Gary B. recently took a vacation with his wife to to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. "I worked to incorporate my steps program into our vacation activities. This picture is taken at Clingmans Dome. We hiked the 0.5 trail to the observation deck. That doesn't sound very daunting until you realize we are over 6,640 feet above sea level (the third highest peak in Eastern United States so the air was thin) and the trail is on an incline that rises 330 feet. In addition to the Clingmans Dome trail, we also walked trails in Cades Cove and near Gatlinburg."
Ann B. walks in her neighborhood and at the gym. "In my home of Binghamton, NY, I love to walk for about a mile to and along the Susquehanna River and across the Washington Street Bridge (pictured) into downtown. After taking a break to enjoy the scenery at Confluence Park, where the Chenango River flows into the Susquehanna, I walk for about another mile along the Chenango - then home again. A meditative second break back at Confluence Park gives me the peace of mind to get back into my home/work schedule. My Virgin HealthMiles pedometer has spurred me to be lots more active!"
Zach R. and his colleagues Melissa P., Jill M., and Bill E.get active together! They all all ran a 1/2 marathon sponsored by the local High School as a fundraiser for their athletic department.
Becky W. brought her pedometer to Kauai when she traveled there for her daughter’s July wedding. "I made sure to get up early and hike on the beach trails in front of the Grand Hyatt every morning. Talk about an inspiring location to walk—racking up the steps was easy!"
Paul C. is an early morning walker and he often shares his hikes with deer, wild turkey, red fox, and a host of wild rabbits. "Tennessee State Parks in the Nashville area are a frequent stop for my family for camping, swimming, and hiking. Numerous trails and roadways with limited traffic make for great places to enjoy the scenery and get in a bunch of steps. This image was taken this week at Cedars of Lebanon State Park just outside the historic Cedar Forest Lodge."
Art G. ran a 3.5 mile race. "After participating in various Virgin HealthMiles Challenges the last two years, I have been encouraged to do several 5K runs - something I never thought I would do. My blood pressure even went down to normal. At Muncy Valley Hospital Lawn Party Race in PA I finished in 41:12. No, not really that fast, but at age 74 my time is getting better for each race."
George R. hiked across the Grand Canyon from rim-to-rim with his son. "We hiked from the south rim to the north rim in one day. We hiked a total of 26 miles from the South Rim to the North Rim, which involves hiking down 4460’ into the canyon and 5840’ back up the other side. It took us 13 hours and I registered 60,270 steps on my pedometer that day."
Mike B.lost 140 pounds through walking and biking. Here he is before, and after hiking the Knobstone Trail in Southern Indiana.
Will N. knows "there’s more than one way to get exercise!"
Greg B.travels for work and wears his GoZone everywhere he goes. "My most recent trip was to Sydney, Australia. I had the opportunity to walk the area to have a look around, and proudly wore my Virgin HealthMiles pedometer during my trek. I started out from my hotel, walked over the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge, and continued to the “Rocks” area, and on to the famous Sydney Opera House. I also ventured past the opera house into the nearby botanical gardens, and then retraced my steps back through the opera house, back over the Sydney Harbour Bridge and back to my hotel. That day I logged a total of 19,626 steps, most of those before 2PM."
John H. hiked Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico. He hiked over 80 miles in 10 days and averaged about 35,000 steps per day.
Judy H. found a way to get her steps in while playing 9 holes of golf. "Instead of riding in a golf cart, I put 15,000 + steps on as I walk the golf course pushing my cart."
Rick B. wears his GoZone during chores, "I find I will walk 1 to 2 miles each time I mow and trim the lawn."
Dina H.wore hers while hiking Agnew Meadows trailhead in Mammoth Lakes, Ca.
Ben E. got active by doing a 3 mile trail x2 on his bike.

I wear sport socks and clip the pedometer to the top of the sock.... works like a champ!

Just can't believe how many steps I make in a day and almost 10,000 steps a day! I understood from my RN friends that 10,000 is about 5 miles a day! REALLY!!!! Wow! I need to add more, I know I haven't really wore it when biking and I know I can't wear it while swimming but I wonder what it would be like if I did!
Today I added my yard work and pushed the lawn mower instead of my riding mower! I like seeing the lines from the walking mower anyways. :)

Our local gym is closed for repair so my husband and I try to get as many steps as we can early in the morning when it is cool but lately that means getting up at 5:30 and out the door by 6:00 so we have been going to our local Lowe's and walking indoors where it is cool! The workers are all friendly and seem to enjoy seeing us come in to walk. (Of course we occasionally buy something. I mean who can go in Lowe's without finding something they need!!)

I do my workout first thing in the morning or late evening. Morning works best bc I can get my slog out of the way.

Carol, try attaching your pedometer to your shoestings. Make sure it's firmly attached so it doesn't come loose.

I need to find something to do inside. The heat index in Memphis today is 116. I am NOT going outside.
I wear it all the time and rack up steps I don't even think about -- like from the living room to the laundry room. Every little bit helps.

ZUMBA is one of the best ways to rack up steps & have a blast without feeling like you're working out! I took one class yesterday and got 12,000 steps just from that... for everyone who thinks they're too "old" or "out of shape" for Zumba, try Zumba Gold! It is SO much fun!

I actually put my pedometer on my thigh side pocket when I ride..I got 22,000 steps when I biked 50 miles and 14,000 when I did 30. It depends how much time I spend coasting to determine my steps. I like the new pedometer, so much better than the old one. As long as my leg keeps moving on the bike..I get steps. It also, is much more accurate when I walk. The key is to keep those legs moving. Its fun to see how long it takes to do each workout. Thank you Virgin Health Miles for caring and encouraging us all.
