The question of how the Virgin HealthMiles program changed or inspired me is an interesting question. I found it easy to push exercise aside during the long cold dark months of winter. It was easy to make excuses to postpone activity until better weather, better light outside, less rain (in Oregon that is hard) or weekend when my schedule was lighter. Easy to eat more and excuse extra winter weight.
Wearing the HealthMiles pedometer reminds me every day to get my exercise. Even if that means only parking in the distance spot and walking into work or the grocery. It helps remind me that excuse is just that ….an excuse.
Not only does it benefit me to wear the pedometer and participate in the program, but it helps others. When they ask me about it we have conversations about how many steps add up each day, the benefits of those small healthy steps and the dramatic changes that just a little activity can do.
I have always been healthy and try to take care of myself; this is just one more reinforcement that is it important to more than just me. The company also care about my health, and that's a good feeling.
