My story actually starts back at the end of 2009/early 2010. I had some health issues which required several hospital stays and surgeries. As part of the recovery, I had begun to lose some weight and decided it was time to make a life change and really focus on my health. I started to be aware of my diet and made a conscious effort to get more regular exercise. Through November 2010 I lost a total of 60 pounds. About that time I started to notice that the weight loss had slowed down considerably and thought I had hit the max for myself and was working on maintaining the weight I had achieved. I still felt I had some extra pounds to lose but it just wasn’t happening.
When the new health plan rolled out and I recieved my Virgin HealthMiles pedometer, I thought – great now they do something like this when I have lost all the weight I can. I thought it would just be a waste of time for me but figured if the steps would convert into some extra dollars towards our health costs then why not wear it.
I started out with the goal to hit 7,000 steps a day. They happened very quickly so I revised my goal to 10,000 steps a day. About a week into that I jumped the goal to 12,000 steps and was feeling pretty good with the pace. After about two weeks, I started to notice that the weight was coming off again at a good and regular pace. I realized that although I thought my activity was pretty good it was not the right kind of activity. Using Virgin HealthMiles and the pedometer really made me open my eyes and realign my exercise goals and activity. The results have been fantastic and since I began tracking on 12/27/10 I have lost an additional 25 pounds. I am now within 10 pounds of my ideal goal weight for my height which is something I never thought even remotely possible. My goal is now to hit over 20,000 steps daily and I have been doing so with only 2 days exceptions when I was sick with strep throat. I can honestly feel the difference on the days when my activity is not at my standard level. I feel better and know that I am looking better.

Donna, congratulations on your success and perseverance for losing those last 25 pounds. Your new look has surely given you new health. You are an inspiration, and I hope to get up to 12,000 steps each day. On most days, I am close to 10,000 steps. I moved up more quickly than I thought possible from 7,000 to 10,000 steps. With you sharing your story, I know it can be possible for me, too. I have had some small successes, as my weight has started to move down, along with my BMI and fat content, which I check on the company's kiosk at least one time each month since the program started in May 2011. Thanks again for sharing your story!
